"Enabling Handlers & Dogs to Work in Harmony"
'The Natural Way'
Bobby Henderson and Julie Simpson-Hill have
more than 50 years experience shepherding and sheepdog training.
Carcant is a traditionally run farm, carrying hill Cheviots and Scottish Blackface sheep.
Most of the work is still done by dog and stick.
The shepherds life was about his sheep and their welfare.
"There are no good sheep without a good shepherd and no good shepherds without a good dog."
At Carcant Farm we offer different terrain to test a dog to the highest level as well as having the facilities to be able to start dogs in smaller fields.
Bobby and Julie cannot only offer their training ability with dogs but their shepherding experience that will take you to a whole new world of understanding the working dog.
Understanding how a dog works and thinks on the hill, showing you what is needed from the dog so that he can work his sheep in the appropiate manner, as to acheive different tasks required throughout a shepherds year.
From gently guiding in a ewe and lamb to standing ground and taking on a charging ram.
So gain that edge in training by learning the shepherding skills.
Our dogs are bred for:
Stamina, that is needed and essencial on steep, rugged ground.
Natural ability to work on their own initiative.
Good Nature to cope with every eventuality.
Trainablity, to enable a high standard of training.
Strength and power that is needed to cope with all eliments of sheep work.
All these requirements are needed for the demands asked of a good hill dog.
Carcant is set in the beautiful surroundings of Heriot. Only 25 miles from Edinburgh, making it the ideal location for training dogs and holding
clinics.
