'The Natural Way'

There is huge demand for well trained dogs.  It is crucial to get the training right in the basic stages of a dogs working life.  Therefore more and more people are realising the benefits of expert help which helps to set the solid foundation required from which to work. 

Julie has worked successfully with all different types of dogs and at Carcant, she can offer the highest quality of training.

Julie has dedicated her life to learning and understanding the working dog.
Following the natural method enhances the dogs natural ability.
She trains using Pressure/Release techniques.  TM
The Pressure shows when the dog is wrong.
The Release shows the dog when he is correct.
This is the language of the dog and so all dogs understand this communication if used correctly.
Using this method creates mutual respect giving the bond that is needed to bring out the best in your dog.
Julie's aim is to teach you how to communicate with your dog using this language. This will help to give you an understanding and insight in to a dogs mind, helping you to perfect timing and feel that is an essencial essence to dog training.

Tuition

  • Assessments
    Assessments given on both working dogs and pet dogs.  Find out your dogs ability, understand how to manage his ability and where to progress with training, together with reading your dogs body language to understand what he is telling you.  Learning to analyze your dogs nature so you can communicate and deal with any problems.

    We offer half hour and one hour lessons for beginners to advance. Teaching on a one to one basis

  • Sheepdog training course.
    This course includes 6 forty minute lessons with your dog along with explaining in detail the theory as to understand "the natural way" of training.

    Clinics on demand.

    •  Internationally renowned trainers will teach you and your dog.
    Enjoy the hospitality and learn from expert trainers. 
    Three day clinic, 20 minute, morning and afternoon training session with the opportunity to watch and learn from other handlers.

    Training

            

    • Border Collies taken in for training
      Bring your dog for training from an experienced trainer to establish a solid foundation.  Basic training takes between 4 and 8 . Send weeks. Limited places available.  Dogs taken on assessment basis.
      Price £60 per week inclusive of board, feed and training.  It is advisable to attend pre training or follow up training to understand the body language involved with training your dog. 

    • Holiday/training combined

      Self catering accommodation available on farm.
      Booking required.
      Cut price on training for those who stay in farm accommodation      .

        Working demonstrations or
        Master class educational demonstrations:  watch Julie  work with her dogs and learn how the development in the training of a border collie progresses throughout a sheepdogs life.  Showing how correct communication  to your pup is a very important part of the pups development in to adolescence, and how important it is to get the basics right and mutual respect.  Starting the young dog and the skill needed to assess your own dog so that training can progress.  Showing each stage of training that young dogs go through before finally showing the fully trained dog and how we commuinate with each other.

      • Shepherding Experience Day

        Booking a demonstration or shepherding day is advisable, although demos can be given on short notice.

        • Come and experience a shepherd's way of life on the hills of Carcant farm. 

      Walk with Julie and her dogs as she goes about her       everyday work on the Moorfoot hills. She offers you a unique opportunity to watch and experience a shepherds life.
